Lowden S-50 Fan Fret Sitka and Church Pew Mahogany

Lowden S-50 Fan Fret Sitka and Church Pew Mahogany

A very special build from Lowden and Tree Bone. This S-50 is a beautiful example of Lowden design restraint with wood that has a story. The back and sides use the very limited Church Pew Mahogany ("CPM")- reclaimed from several hundred year old, old-growth, church pews from a church in Northern Ireland. Paired with a master grade sitka spruce top, it is articulate, not punchy, balanced, and has incredible sustain. We added fan frets for easy playing and enhanced intonation and a Celtic Tree of Life wood-in-wood inlay below the heel on the back.

The Lowden S is most akin to a OO size guitar, but has its own, distinctly Lowden, shape and sound. We find that many smaller frame guitars are exclusively finger style instruments as they tend take to picking much less willingly. This one handles picking just fine, making it a very versatile guitar.
